Chances are that we have all had a horrible boss at some point in our lives. Whilst we may be familiar with moaning colleagues, believe it or not, those at the top of the hierarchy have their fair share of complaints too. Below are just a few examples of some of the worst documented employees in history.
The transport security agent who stole luggage items to sell on eBay
Pythias Brown, an airport security agent from Newark, NJ, was allegedly caught stealing items from baggage that travellers had checked in. Making off with more than $200,000 worth of goods including cameras, laptops and jewellery, Pythias went on to sell the stolen items on eBay to make some extra cash for himself. His money-making trick came to an end when one of his victims spotted his equipment on the website and he was charged with theft.
The woman who kept a journal of how much work she wasn’t doing
A young sales coordinator working at The Sheraton Hotel found that she had a lot of spare time on her hands. Rather than asking for some extra work to keep her busy, Emmalee Bauer decided to keep a journal of her day so that superiors wouldn’t cotton on to the fact that she had nothing to do. Her entries included statements that she was only there for the money, that she hadn’t accomplished anything for a long time and that it was great being paid to shop online, play games and read message boards. Unfortunately for Emmalee, her employer found her journal and as well as losing her job, was even denied unemployment benefits by a judge who said her journal showed a refusal to work and amusement at getting away with it.
The cargo worker who fell asleep during his shift and woke up 200 miles away
JetBlue worker, Sidney Nurse, somehow managed to fall asleep while loading bags at JFK Airport. The 21-year-old worker managed to shock his tarmac counterparts at Boston’s Logan Airport when they opened the cargo door and unloaded him along with the luggage.
The cleaner who beat himself up to get a day off work
Simon Reid, a 23-year-old hotel cleaner in Scotland, wanted a day off work. However, rather than ask for one like most people would, he claimed that he had been assaulted. To make his story more believable, Simon repeatedly dragged a razor down his face. He also picked up a boulder and repeatedly hit himself on the head and body. He went to the police station to report the unfortunate assault but later admitted he was lying and got a fine for wasting police time. When asked about the incident, Simon said, ‘looking back, I should have just phoned work and asked them for the day off’.
The employee who moaned about her boss on Facebook forgetting that she had him as a friend
They say you should be careful what you say on Facebook and for one lady this couldn’t be more relevant. After a bad day at work she updated her status to express how much she hated her boss and even accused him of sexual harassment. Unfortunately, she clearly forgot that she had her boss as a contact and he could read what she posted. Far from impressed, her boss got his own back and fired her…via Facebook.
